More significantly, to address the national socio-economic challenges, the department is also undertaking applied and fundamental research and development in the field of science and technology to create ventures and start-ups, build national intellectual property and establish a platform for innovation, creativity, and jobs for the next generation.

DIVISIONS
InnoTech Department
The department is conceived with two divisions: the Strategic Technology Planning (STP) Division and the DHI Research and Innovation Venture Excellence Center (DRIVE) as the R&D division.

The Strategic Technology Planning (STP) Division is the technology "think tank" of the department. The objective of the division is to support DHI and its Group in strategizing technology pathways as well as supporting and facilitating the strategic direction for the DRIVE center towards meeting its objective.
a) DHI Group Policy Framework for Science, Technology, and Innovation
The technologies of the Fourth Industrial Revolution present promising opportunities to DHI group companies to transform at a scale, scope and velocity that would profoundly shape DHI’s direction towards expansion of large, impactful and transformative industries that will have clear nation-wide impact. Consequently, the intent of the policy is to create a group-wide corporate science, technology and innovation framework to create an ecosystem in which DHI companies can recalibrate in order to effectively incorporate technological advances. The policy will cover various domains of the innovation system that will seek to inculcate a dynamic and open corporate system for continuous innovation involving the entire organization.
b) Digital Transformation Strategy
In order to usher Bhutan into a digital society, it has been envisioned that the Group will be fully digitalized by 2025. It is with this renewed vision, that DHI is proposing a strategic plan/roadmap for the Group’s Digital Transformation. DHI and the Group must leverage the various evolving array of digital technologies such as social, mobile, analytics, cloud, artificial intelligence, blockchain and the internet of things to enhance, improve and develop new value propositions for our stakeholders and customers. With that frame of mind, and mainly as the Group lacks in-depth understanding of digital transformation, an assessment of the current state (digital maturity of the Group), and structuring of our digital transformation initiative will be carried out along the various building blocks of digital transformation such as operational backbone, shared customer insights, digital platform, accountability framework and external developer platform.
